About Modesto City Schools

Modesto City Schools is dedicated to serving our community with diverse programs for individuals ranging from two months old to adults. Our district comprises an elementary district (TK-8) and a high school district (9-12), unified under a common Board of Education and administration. Seven other school districts integrate into Modesto City Schools at the high school level, supporting an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students. We operate 22 elementary schools (TK-6), four junior high schools (7-8), and seven comprehensive high schools (9-12).

Our Child Development Programs extend services to an additional 1,500 children through Family Child Care Homes, Early Head Start, Head Start, and State Preschool programs. We offer an extensive alternative education program with an opportunity and continuation school, an independent study program, and adult education opportunities. With over 3,200 employees, Modesto City Schools is one of the largest employers in Stanislaus County.

Education in Modesto City Schools goes beyond teaching a state-standard curriculum. We emphasize a District-wide Character Education program, focusing on nine key character traits. Regular assessments, including interim assessments, common finals, and both District and state tests, measure individual student progress toward meeting content standards. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every student graduates college career-ready, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary to succeed in a global society.

Located in the Central Valley, 75 miles east of the San Francisco Bay Area and 70 miles south of Sacramento, Modesto City Schools has provided exemplary educational programs since 1871.
